President Prabowo Subianto issued on Jan. 23 a presidential instruction that mandates all ministries and state agencies to identify spending items that could be cut to save an estimated Rp 306 trillion (US$18.7 billion).
The public’s increasing interest in online shopping is fully supported by the government through economic policies that favor small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and the community. For the past 12 years, the government has supported National Online Shopping Day (HARBOLNAS), initiated by the Indonesian E-Commerce Association (idEA), which is celebrated every Dec. 12. This initiative has proven to drive the growth of Indonesia's digital economy year after year.
The government continues to strengthen various efforts to boost national exports, including through the establishment of the National Export Enhancement Task Force on Sept. 20, 2023. Amid the current global economic conditions, Indonesia's export performance has shown good results, with the country’s export value in May 2024 reaching US$22.33 billion, an increase of 13.82 percent month-to-month (mtm) or 2.86 percent year-on-year (yoy).
