However, although these plant-based milks are often touted as being healthy alternatives to milk, little research has been done to compare the benefits and drawbacks of each.
The Jakarta administration is set to include milk and mackerel in its food subsidy program next year following a significant increase in the budget for the subsidy, which is now Rp 885.5 billion (US$ 65 million) up from Rp 190 billion in 2017.
According to the Indonesian Milk Processing Industry Association (AIPS), demand for milk in the country is growing at an annual rate of almost 10 percent.However, despite growing demand, local milk production has actually declined in recent years.
