The new policy quickly gathered heat, with long lines of angry people around the country trying to buy 3-kilogram canisters of LPG and amid harsh criticism going viral on social media.
The National Police have begun a sweeping operation to crack down on hoarders and fraudsters taking advantage of the sudden shortage in 3 kg canisters of subsidized LPG, triggered by a now-reversed government ban on retail sales.
Since the policy was implemented, however, long queues have formed outside approved LPG distributors across various regions, with thousands of residents expressing frustration over their struggle to obtain the cooking gas.
