orobudur Temple near Magelang, Central Java, is set to celebrate New Year's Eve by releasing 5,000 lanterns as a symbol of thanksgiving and well wishes for the temple in the year ahead.
The director of state-owned management company PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobur, Prambanan dan Ratu Boko (TWC), Edi Setijono, said the lanterns would be released in Lumbini Park at the Borobudur complex and four locations in villages outside the area. "This will be an expression of our gratitude for the year's hard work and our hope that we can achieve better accomplishments in 2017," he said on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

Regarding the lanterns, Edi said the company planned to use drone-based lamps instead of conventional lanterns in next year's celebration to reduce air pollution. (kes)
