alaysia Airlines has officially launched a new direct route from Surabaya in East Java to Kuala Lumpur with its maiden flight on Sunday.
The carrier's chief commercial officer, Arved von Zur Muehlen, told Antara news agency on Monday that the service marked its fourth destination in Indonesia after Jakarta, Bali and Medan.
"[This new route] highlights the close relationship between Malaysia and Indonesia," said Arved, adding that plans are in the pipeline to add more flights in December.

The Kuala Lumpur to Surabaya flight is available four times a week on a Boeing B737-800 that can accommodate 160 passengers.
Malaysia’s ambassador to Indonesia, Dato Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim, said he hoped the new service would help boost the brand.
"Hopefully the people of Surabaya will not only be able to fly to Kuala Lumpur, but also to Kinabalu and Penang," he added. (kes)
