Below are three recommended winter festivals according to the Korea Tourism Organization:
Pyeongchang Trout Festival
Taking place at Jinbu-myeon city in Gangwon province, this year’s Pyeongchang Trout Festival will be held for 35 days from Dec. 22 to Feb. 25 next year, or before and throughout the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
Visitors can partake in different activities during the event, including trout fishing, ice skating, ATV and snow rafting. The freshly caught trout can also be prepared and served in restaurants near the venue.
Trout itself is known to be nutritious and delicious, especially when it is consumed raw.

Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival
Hwacheon Sanchoeoneo Ice Festival or Trout Hwacheon Ice Festival is set to be held for 23 days from Jan. 6 to 28 next year near the Hwacheon River in Gangwon province.
Fishing trout becomes one of the most-awaited activities during this festival and people can also catch the fish bare-handed.
It is advised to read the fishing requirements on the festival’s official website prior to joining the activity.
Seoul Christmas Festival
Lighting in various colors and sizes will brighten the Cheonggyecheon River from Cheonggye Plaza to Jonggak as it becomes the venue for Seoul Christmas Festival.
Held for almost a month from Dec. 9 to Jan. 2, the festival will also feature a Christmas tree and five different zones, which includes Joy Zone at Mojeongyo Bridge and Gwanggyo Bridge.
Among the programs that can be enjoyed are music performances, New Year’s countdown and exhibitions. (kes)
