ituated near to Senayan City shopping mall, Prof. Dr. Moestopo University and Binus University, Jalan Hang Tuah Raya in Central Jakarta is a one-way street filled with small offices and hidden gems, such as a world class beauty center and a cute coffee shop.

Off Jl. Hang Tuah Raya, there is Jl. Hang Lekir, along which you can also find interesting shops.

How to get there

It is advised to use ride-hailing apps, such as Go-Jek, Grab and Uber to reach the area.

However, those who want to take public transportation to reach the area may hop on the Transjakarta and get off at Bundaran Senayan bus stop or Blok M terminal.

What to wear

Jl. Hang Tuah Raya is actually a residential area, which makes smart casual the safest bet for a daytime outing. However, for those wanting to explore the street on foot, it is recommended to wear a hat and comfortable shoes as the weather is quite humid.

What to do

Among the offices, visitors to Jl. Hang Tuah Raya will discover La Prairie Centre de Beauté on the corner of the road. As its name implies, La Prairie Centre de Beauté offers facial treatments and products from the high-end brand.

Meanwhile, those who want to burn some calories may want to visit Hang Tuah Raya park or Spartan House Jakarta.

The former is a small park located right in the middle of Jl. Hang Tuah Raya.

Meanwhile, Spartan House Jakarta is situated on Jl. Hang Lekir. Here, sports enthusiasts can try martial arts classes, such as Indonesian krav maga, kickboxing, boxing and krav fit.  

Where to shop

Sneakerheads may want to schedule a visit to KXStart shop. Located above Trafique Coffee, the shop offers an extensive sneaker collection, varying from Air Jordan 3 Retro, Pharrell x Adidas sneakers to Adidas Yeezy Boost 350.

Those looking for a quiet place to work may want to check out Trafique Coffee.

Located on Jl. Hang Tuah Raya No. 9, first-time visitors may have a hard time locating the coffee shop, as there is no big sign in front of the shop.

However, once you enter the cute yellow door, you will find a spacious coffee shop that boasts a laid-back atmosphere, making it a convenient place for work, business meetings or even daydreaming.

Although, food options on Jl. Hang Tuah Raya are quite limited, foodies can walk to Jl. Hang Lekir and find Halal Boys and Beautika.

The Halal Boys is a street cart offering Middle Eastern style chicken and lamb platters with prices starting at Rp 40,000 (US$2.90).

Meanwhile, Beautika is the go-to place for those wanting to savor the spicy Manadonese dishes, such as ayam isi dibulu (chicken cooked in bamboo), paniki (bats in spicy sauce), udang woku belanga (spicy prawn stew) and more.

Tips:

- Jl. Hang Tuah Raya is usually congested during peak hours. Those who want to explore the area are advised to come during the weekend.

- The sidewalks are narrow and uneven, so be careful when walking.

- Beautika is usually crowded during lunchtime. Large groups of six people or more are advised to come early. (mut)
