ive tourist destinations in Gorontalo province will be developed into one geopark. The five destinations are Olele Marine Park, East Biluhu dive site, Botubarani whale shark site, Cargo Ship ruins and Bongo religious village.
Kompas.com reported that the destinations were located in three administrative regions, namely Bone Bolango regency, Gorontalo regency and Gorontalo city.
“This geopark concept has a sustainable aspect and has vast potential, but there are also risks,” Budi Sidiki, head of the Gorontalo Development Planning Board (Bappeda), told Kompas.com during a workshop on geopark tourist destination development on Tuesday.
The sustainable aspect is expected to promote conservation efforts, paired with education and welfare programs for local residents.

The integration of the five destinations will begin with the unification of tourism workers, entrepreneurs and provincial administrations to design a destination concept to be offered to international tourists.
All five destinations are on one long coastline of the Gulf of Tomini, the biggest gulf on the equator.
“We are open to ideas and suggestions for the revision of the Provincial Tourism Development Masterplan (RIPPDA) regarding the geopark,” said Sofyan Pulo’o, Gorontalo Tourism Agency head of destination development. (mut)
