Raja Ampat in West Papua is always worth a visit, and a festival will add to the archipelago’s appeal next month.

Waisai, the capital of the regency of Raja Ampat on Waigeo Island will be the main venue of the Raja Ampat Charm Festival, which will run from Oct. 18-21.

"The magnificent beauty of the Raja Ampat islands serves as its main attraction. However, you will also be taken to snorkel and dive spots around the island. As you know, Raja Ampat has been declared one of the best snorkeling and diving spots in the world by CNN Travel. Hence, this is a haven for divers and snorkelers," said Tourism Minister Arief Yahya, as quoted by tempo.co on Monday.

Visitors can expect to explore the marine richness of Raja Ampat at the festival, which includes whales, dolphins, dugongs, turtles and many more. The destination also serves as the heart of the Coral Triangle.

Art performances and traditional culture will also be featured at the event, as well as a traditional boat parade and a beach clean-up. The Pesta Rakyat (people's party) and a local bazaar will enrich the festival.

To attract visitors to the event, various competitions will be staged at the festival, including an underwater and journalistic photo competition, a seafood cooking contest and an art competition. (kes)
