ational flag carrier Garuda Indonesia was recently recognized as a Five-Star Global Airline by New York-based nonprofit association Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) after maintaining a five-star airline rating from British global airline consultancy Skytrax in February.

According to a statement, Garuda Indonesia received the honor from APEX in an official ceremony in Boston, the United States, alongside 24 other airlines.

"This award of course serves as recognition for all of the commitment and hard work of our employees, who provide the best service for our customers, allowing Garuda Indonesia to maintain this title for the second time in a row," said the carrier's service director, Nicodemus P. Lampe, in a statement on Wednesday.

Gathering feedback from passengers anonymously based on their verified trips, more than 500 airlines were reviewed by customers from around the globe for a period between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018 in the APEX report. Among the categories rated by the respondents were seat comfort, cabin service, food and beverage, entertainment and Wi-Fi.

"From 500 airlines in the world, less than 9 percent reached five-star status and 14 percent received four-star status in each category," said APEX CEO Joe Leader.
