Yogyakarta serves as one of the country's most popular year-end holiday destinations.

Until Jan. 20, 2019, visitors have the additional treat of enjoying the ongoing Festival of Lights at Gardu Pandang Kaliurang in Sleman regency, according to a report by kompas.com.

Located near Mount Merapi volcano, the festival offers colorful lights and air balloons that can fly up to 30 meters into the sky. The air balloon attraction is open to the public from 5 p.m. with ticket prices starting at Rp 75,000 (US$5.15) per person. However, visitors should note that the balloon will only operate when the weather is bright with low wind speed.
