Low-cost carrier PT Citilink Indonesia is set to implement its new policy on baggage fees in early February, with a price list that varies depending on flight duration and luggage weight.
ow-cost carrier Citilink Indonesia, a subsidiary of national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, is set to implement a new baggage fee policy in early February.
Citilink president director Juliandra Nurtjahjo said the policy had been approved by the Transportation Ministry. The fees had been slated to be implemented at the end of January, but was delayed to early February, as the airline wanted to inform the public about the policy change.
"We want to campaign it first, so there is a possibility of moving it from the end of January to around the first weeks of February," Juliandra said, as quoted by tempo.co.
He further said that that Citilink was set to disseminate information on the changes to ensure the public was familiar with the new pricing scheme.
Juliandra added that passengers would still be allotted 10 kilograms of free baggage for members and those who purchased "green seats".
Airline ticket prices are regulated under Transportation Ministerial Regulation No.14/2016 on price ceilings. Airlines are given space to apply their own business strategies to generate revenue, as long as they set prices within the determined limit.

Citilink has listed the pricing schemes for check-in luggage on its website, which depend on flight duration and whether tickets were purchased at the counter or online, which must be done at latest 24 hours prior to departure.
When paying for check-in luggage at the counter, passengers must buy at a price set per kilogram. Flight duration categories start with 59 minutes and below and then increase by an increment of 30 minutes thereafter until a ceiling of six hours and over.
For flights under 59 minutes, the fee per kg is Rp 20,000 (US$1.41). For flights of one hour and up to 1 hour and 29 minutes until over six hours, prices range from Rp 25,000 to Rp 80,000 per kilogram.
Passenger would save more if bought online ahead of departure, although it would not be possible to buy per kilogram. For early purchases, flight duration categorization still applies. The scheme differs in weight categorization, with choices bundled from either 5 kg or 10 kg.
For flights 59 minutes and below, 5 kg of luggage would cost a passenger Rp 55,000, while 10 kg would cost Rp 105,000. The rate is almost half of the cost when bought at the counter at check-in at the same weight.
Meanwhile, for flights spanning six hours and above, 5 kg would cost Rp 230,000, while 10 kg fetches a price of Rp 450,000. (liz/kes)
