A new five-star hotel, the Alila SCBD Jakarta, is to officially open its doors on Feb. 6.

Situated in Central Jakarta’s retail and business district, the hotel offers 227 studios and suites, event spaces, an outdoor pool, a gym, a spa and dining concepts.

The hotel features the New York-style Vong Kitchen and 24-hour joint Le Burger, helmed by Michelin-starred Jean-Georges Vongerichten and son Cedric. There is also a Hakkasan specialty restaurant offering modern Cantonese cuisine, presented by the Hakassan Group hospitality company.

The hotel was designed by Bangkok-based architectural firm IAW using the irregular-boot-like shape of the site to advantage. The building’s façade features a unique overlapping pattern of aluminium sticks and canopies, while its shape allows guest rooms to be laid out in different configurations.

Original art works were specially commissioned for the interiors, such as an installation entitled “Birds, Bats and Butterflies” that features a series of three-dimensional aluminum tiles in different sizes shaped like the animals, which was created by Australian-born architect and artist Richard Hassell.

Meanwhile, the large Orbital of Joy work of art, created by Yogyakarta-based art duo Indieguerillas, is mounted to an outside wall. The circular shape of the piece is meant to represent a continuous cycle or journey.

Until Feb. 28, Alila SCBD is offering opening rates starting at Rp 2.5 million (US$179) for a Studio King or Rp 3.1 million for an XL Studio King. Breakfast for one is included, while additional breakfast is available at Rp 300,000.
