Lion Air to connect Makassar with Manokwari

ow-cost carrier Lion Air is set to open a new direct flight from Makassar in South Sulawesi to Manokwari in West Papua starting Oct. 9.

The service will be available once a day.

Based on the schedule, Lion Air JT-784 will fly from Makassar's Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport at 8:55 a.m. local time and arrive at Rendani Airport in Manokwari at 1 p.m. local time. Meanwhile, the return flight JT-785 will operate on the same day, departing from Rendani Airport at 1:40 p.m. and land in Makassar at 3:40 p.m.

The service will use a Boeing 737-800 Next Generation that can accommodate 189 economy class passengers or a Boeing 737-900ER, which offers 215 economy class seats. 

According to a statement, the new route aims to support travelers' mobility and expand the carrier's market and strengthen its network in the east part of the archipelago. It also seeks to develop tourism by increasing the number of domestic and foreign tourists.

Known for its beaches, cuisine and culture, Makassar boasts many destinations, such as Losari Beach and Bantimurung National Park. Meanwhile, Manokwari is home to the breathtaking Doreri Bay, Wondiwoy Mountains and Arfak tribe traditional houses.

From Makassar, Lion Air passengers have the option to directly continue their journey to other regions such as Ambon, Balikpapan, Banjarmasin, Denpasar, Gorontalo, Jayapura, Kendari, Merauke, Palu, Sorong, Ternate, Manado, Lombok, Pontianak and Tarakan. Meanwhile, from Rendani Airport, travelers may hop on the next flight to Ambon, Kaimana, Sorong, Fak-Fak and Jakarta. (kes)
