ion Air Group's subsidiary Wings Air announced on Sunday a temporary suspension of its international service from Pontianak in West Kalimantan to Kuching in Sarawak, Malaysia until further notice.
According to a statement received by The Jakarta Post, the move is based on the recommendation of the company's Operations, Safety, Security and Quality Directorate amid the current COVID-19 epidemic.
"The decision was also taken as a preventive and proactive effort to prioritize the safety of our cabin and ground handling crew and passengers," said Wings Air corporate communications strategist Danang Mandala Prihantoro in the statement.
The carrier flies from Pontianak's Supadio International Airport to Kuching International Airport at 9:45 a.m. local time, and later in the day departs from Kuching to Supadio airport at 11:55 a.m.
All passengers are said to have been informed about the temporary suspension, and those who have purchased tickets are eligible for a refund.
Many airlines around the world have succumbed to the epidemic and continue to decrease their flight frequency, especially to regions heavily affected by the novel coronavirus. (kes)
