ow-cost carrier AirAsia Group has extended the suspension of flight operations in Indonesia until May 7, following approval from the authorities.

Previously, AirAsia Indonesia had announced that it would be suspending domestic and international routes until April 21 and May 17, respectively.

According to a statement, AirAsia Group will resume regular domestic services in Malaysia on April 29, in Thailand on May 1, in the Philippines on May 1 and in India on May 4.

During the first phase of the resumed operations, only a limited number of flights will be available on certain domestic as well as international routes, depending on the pandemic situation, travel bans and lockdown policies.

“We are hopeful to be able to fully operate as soon as possible. We have made adjustments regarding passenger handling procedures on land and on air toward COVID-19 vigilance,” said AirAsia Group president Bo Lingam in the statement.

All passengers are advised to take general precautions, such as wearing face masks, practice physical distancing and maintain personal hygiene throughout flights.

Bookings can be done online through the carrier’s website airasia.com and mobile app, with the option to redeem store credit.

AirAsia Group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes has urged the airline's customers to accept store credit for replacement flights instead of claiming refunds for flights affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as the company was "doing everything possible to reduce costs" but had opted to retain its staff.
