A

luxurious train voyage across the heart of Central Java, dubbed The Journey Through Java, will be available on selected dates starting on Dec. 10.

The 500-kilometer trip starts at Jakarta's Gambir Station and ends at Amanjiwo Hotel, a luxurious compound located within a secluded hilly area near the Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Central Java.

The trains are provided by luxury rail operator PT Kereta Api Pariwisata, a subsidiary of state-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI).

Before embarking in the 7-hour journey, passengers are welcomed in the station’s exclusive lounge. Along the journey, passengers can unwind while the vibrant dynamics of Jakarta outside the carriage windows slowly turn into a refreshing view of pea-green paddy fields and countryside villages.

Passengers will be served breakfast and lunch prepared by the Amanjiwo Hotel as well as tea and champagne on board while they enjoy the panoramic view. Patrick Vanhoebrouck, Amanjiwo’s resident anthropologist, will share historic and cultural highlights along the journey.

The trip ends at Yogyakarta's Tugu Station, from where passengers get a transfer to the hotel, where they enjoy an eventful three-night stay.

During the stay, guests can visit the grand structure of the Borobudur temple that dates back to the ninth century and enjoy a breathtaking sunrise view amid the 504 life-size Buddha statues above misty forested hills. Guests are also welcome to indulge in the Amanjiwo dining experience with choices of traditional formal dinners at the hotel’s grand colonial restaurant, private picnic on the banks of the nearby river or sunset martini sessions overlooking the nearby Menoreh Hills.

The package is available from Dec. 10-13 and Dec. 24-27 and will continue twice monthly on selected dates throughout 2021. For more information, visit the hotel's website. (gis/wng)
