The Indonesian Navy is readying KRI dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat for a humanitarian mission to treat war victims in Gaza.
he Indonesian Navy is preparing a hospital ship, KRI dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat, for a humanitarian mission to treat Palestinian victims in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
Rear Adm. Denih Hendrata, operations assistant to the Navy chief of staff, said on Thursday that the ship would serve two functions, namely health and social services.
Denih also said the Indonesian Navy was still arranging the ship's deployment with the Defense Ministry and Foreign Ministry.
"We are waiting for further decisions because the Indonesian Navy is tasked with being prepared and departing upon any new order," he said.
The upcoming deployment of the hospital ship follows a technical discussion on the ship’s assignment to Gaza led by Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto.
"I have discussed our plans and offers to send a hospital ship, and we will coordinate with the Egyptian government concerning this matter," said Prabowo when he received Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Zuhair al-Shun at his office on Monday.
TNI chief Adm. Yudo Margono inspected the hospital ship on Monday at the Military Maritime Transportation Command’s pier in North Jakarta.
