An expert advised the government not to be careless and to prioritize diplomatic efforts in evacuating the Indonesian citizens from impacted regions following the Iran-Israel conflict.
he government should not be hasty in devising its evacuation plans for Indonesians from the Middle East following the unprecedented Iranian missile attacks on Israel, experts have warned the government.
“While the safety of Indonesian citizens residing near the conflict area is threatened, the utmost priority is to be careful when evacuating citizens,” international relations expert from Andalas University, Virtuous Setyaka, said in Padang on Monday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
"The most important thing is that Indonesia does not make the wrong move in evacuating Indonesian citizens in conflict areas."
Iran sent a barrage of drones and ballistic missiles into Israel on April 13 following Israel’s bombing of the consular annex of its embassy compound in Damascus on April 1.
The attack killed seven personnel of the Iranian Revolution Guard Corps, two of them generals.
Virtuous emphasized that prioritizing diplomatic efforts with related countries was crucial.
"So, if you want to withdraw Indonesian citizens from Iran or Israel, don't forget the diplomatic context. It is important to maintain coordination," he said.
