P

resident Prabowo Subianto congratulated Donald Trump for his sweeping victory in the United States presidential election on Wednesday, hoping for a closer partnership in the future especially in ensuring global peace and stability.

“My heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Donald Trump for being elected as the 47th President of the United States of America,” Prabowo said through his X account on Wednesday evening, noting that Indonesia and the US are strategic partners who share a robust and multifaceted relationship.

“Our strategic partnership holds immense potential for mutual benefit, and I look forward to collaborating closely with you and your administration to further enhance this partnership and for global peace and stability,” Prabowo added.

Trump made a stunning return to the White House after a polarizing and dizzying campaign marked by two attempts on his life and Kamala Harris’ late entry into the race following President Joe Biden’s surprise withdrawal.

Prabowo is scheduled to make a US stop during his first extensive international trip this month, which also includes China. Presidential Communications Office head Hasan Nasbi said Prabowo might meet the newly elected US president.

"But [President Prabowo] is scheduled to meet with the current US president first. We will see how things develop there," Hasan told journalists after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
