President Prabowo said his government will accelerate its economic partnership with India and prioritize the cooperation over the long term.
Indonesia and India signed a wide range of agreements on Saturday covering culture, health, maritime, security and digital sectors.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by President Prabowo Subianto and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of India's Republic Day celebrations on Sunday.
Among cooperation announced on Saturday was health cooperation between the Health Ministry and Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as well as the maritime safety and security cooperation between the Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) and the Indian Coast Guard.
In a press conference after the signing ceremony, President Prabowo said his government will accelerate its economic partnership with India and prioritize the cooperation over the long term.
"We discussed many key sectors of common interest in which we would like to accelerate the level of cooperation," Prabowo said.
Prabowo also thanked India for its support of Indonesia through the process of becoming a member of BRICS, saying the bloc of emerging market economies "will be beneficial for global stability and regional cooperation".
Speaking before Prabowo's remarks, Prime Minister Modi said the two countries will work together in defense manufacturing and improving supply chains.
"We also decided to cooperate on issues such as maritime security, cybersecurity, counter terrorism and de-radicalisation," Modi said.
Before the bilateral meeting with Modi, Prabowo was welcomed by the prime minister and Indian President Droupadi Murmu in a state ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Palace in New Delhi on Saturday morning local time.
The former Army general inspected a guard of honor before greeting Indian officials and introducing Indonesian delegations to Modi and Murmu.
The Foreign Ministry previously described the visit to India as “an affirmation of the deepening and widening strategic cooperation between the two countries, especially in the economic, security [and] maritime sectors”.
