he Foreign Ministry is providing legal support to an Indonesian detained in Minnesota, the United States, amid an immigration crackdown by the administration of President Donald Trump.
Aditya Wahyu Harsono, a US student visa holder living in Marshall, Minnesota with his wife Peyton Harsono, was detained by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on March 27, just four days after his visa was revoked.
"Legal support will continue to be provided to ensure [his] rights are fulfilled during the legal proceedings in the US," Foreign Ministry citizen protection director Judha Nugraga said on Tuesday, as quoted by tempo.co.
Judha said that the Indonesian consulate general in Chicago is in contact with Aditya and his wife, a US citizen.
Last week, the immigration court granted him release from custody under a US$5,000 bail. But the Department of Homeland Security filed an appeal, for which a hearing is scheduled for Thursday, according to Judha.
Aditya is being held under ICE custody at the Kandiyohi county jail, a locator page on the agency’s website says.
