resident Prabowo Subianto has arrived in Brasilia ahead of his meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to intensify the strategic partnership between the two countries, following the end of the BRICS Summit.
Cooperation between Indonesia and Brazil on defense, energy and agriculture, among other sectors, holds significant potential for both countries’ trade and investment, an official Indonesian statement said ahead of the bilateral meeting, adding that Jakarta remained eager to strengthen diplomacy with friendly countries in the South American region.
Flying from Rio de Janeiro on Monday, Prabowo concluded his debut appearance at the BRICS Summit, a meeting that saw Indonesia calling for the implementation of the Bandung Spirit and multilateral reform amid a fractured and unpredictable world.
Held under the shadows of the United States’ trade tariff policy, the BRICS talks revolved around how Global South countries could cooperate to navigate the current geopolitical landscape.
During the meeting, Prabowo emphasized the need for intensified South-South economic cooperation among the group’s members.

A statement issued by the Cabinet Secretariat on Tuesday described Prabowo’s BRICS attendance as “a significant milestone in the history of Indonesia’s foreign relations”. It also cited the President’s later meeting with Lula as a display of the country’s commitment to fostering South-South cooperation.
