T

he government is closely monitoring the deteriorating security situation in Iran to ensure the safety of its citizens, the Foreign Ministry has said, adding that contingency measures are in place should conditions worsen, though no evacuation is planned at this stage.

All 386 registered Indonesians in Iran, most of them students based in the cities of Qom and Isfahan, remain safe, according to a ministry statement issued on Monday. The nationals have been briefed on emergency procedures and are in regular contact with the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran.

“Based on ongoing communication between the embassy and Indonesian citizens across Iran, including key community hubs, there have so far been no significant security disturbances [affecting them],” the statement reads.

The embassy has nevertheless urged Indonesians to remain vigilant, follow developments through official sources and maintain close contact with diplomatic staff, it added.

Concerns have mounted globally as protests in Iran enter their third week and continue to spread nationwide, with more than 500 fatalities reported in recent weeks.

Iranian rights groups and state media have confirmed fatalities among both protesters and security personnel, while Tehran has blamed foreign interference for the unrest.
