alaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is expected to meet with President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on Friday to talk about bilateral issues as well as recent geopolitical developments and their impact on both countries and the Southeast Asian region.
According to a statement issued by the Malaysian Foreign Ministry on Thursday, Anwar will visit Jakarta at Prabowo’s invitation.
Prabowo and Anwar are expected to discuss the United States-Israeli war on Iran and its impact on regional stability and the global economy, including implications for Malaysia and Indonesia.
Recent developments in the Middle East, as written by the ministry, require “comprehensive, careful and coordinated discussions” between leaders of the two countries to “align positions and strengthen cooperation” in responding to the latest situation.
“Both leaders are expected to intensify diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and ensure the continuity of global trade routes and supply chains that are critical to the well-being of their peoples,” the ministry further wrote in the statement.
It added that the meeting would also underscore the importance of strengthening ASEAN’s role as a united and principled bloc, which would enable the region to act collectively in preserving regional peace and stability as well as safeguarding economic resilience amid global uncertainties.
