Barito Pacific president director Agus Salim Pangestu said the oxygen concentrators were much needed to support the treatment of COVID-19 patients as the country battled the second wave of infections.
“As an Indonesian company, we extend our utmost empathy to the Indonesian people and stand with everyone, because only by supporting one another can we survive this pandemic," he said.
The 3,000 oxygen concentrators are to be delivered in two phases
The first donation of 1,500 oxygen concentrators, along with the Singaporean government's COVID-19 aid, was handed over to Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore Tommy Suryopratomo on July 9 in the island nation. The second donation is to be delivered in the coming weeks.
In a statement, the ambassador said the Singaporean government had demonstrated that it was a true friend to Indonesia.
“The Singaporean people and businesses have also shown their genuine support for Indonesia in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic," said Tommy.
Meanwhile, Temasek Foundation chief executive Benedict Cheong expressed the foundation’s wish to donate the oxygen concentrators to the Indonesian Health Ministry.
"As the COVID-19 climate continues to evolve, Temasek Foundation in Singapore stands in solidarity with our friends around the region,” said Cheong.
Founded in 2011, Bakti Barito Foundation is the charitable arm of the Barito Pacific Group that aims to give back to the environment and the community. While its programs focus mainly on issues in education, the environment, the economy and society, the foundation has also been an active contributor to COVID-19 relief efforts.
From March to September last year, Prajogo Pangestu, along with Barito Pacific’s business lines, donated around Rp 48.5 billion in medical equipment, including a mobile PCR lab, 34 ventilators and 35,200 COVID-19 test kits.
