The French Development Agency (AFD) will provide technical assistance, with possible financial assistance down the line.
he French Development Agency (AFD) has agreed to help state-owned electricity company PLN develop a 200-megawatt (MW) wind farm in Pandeglang, Banten, to help boost renewable energy use in Indonesia.
The AFD and PLN said on Wednesday that the project was to begin construction this year, and is expected to be completed in 2025. The development agency will assist PLN by providing technical assistance, including conducting capacity-building programs regarding technology, and feasibility studies.
The Banten wind farm will be bigger than the 150 MW Sukabumi wind farm in West Java that is billed as "the largest in Southeast Asia”.

“[The AFD] will support PLN in making sure that the wind farm project preparation will [run smoothly], including in terms of mitigating potential environmental risks, as well as social and technical risks, using best practices,” said AFD director general Remy Rioux in a statement.
He added that the AFD and other European counterparts were considering financing the project.
PLN president director Darmawan Prasodjo said the company had conducted a pre-feasibility study that calculated the on-site wind energy potential at 350 MW. PLN is slated to develop a 200 MW wind farm in the first stage of the project.
