he government will require the use of its COVID-19 app PeduliLindungi for the purchase of bulk cooking oil in a bid to monitor the distribution of the ingredient at a capped price of Rp 14,000 (US$0.94) per liter.
The app is to limit purchases of bulk cooking oil to 10 kilograms, or 12 liters a day per person, verified through the buyer’s single identity number (NIK) registered in the app.
Consumers without the app can still purchase the product by showing their electronic identity card, which displays their NIK.
The 10-kg limit is based on the estimated demand for small businesses, but it also applies to households.
Meanwhile, traders and retailers must sign up to the Industry Ministry's bulk cooking oil information system (SIMIRAH) 2.0 to offer the product.
The government said it would begin to disseminate information on the scheme to the public starting on June 27 and that the policy would be enforced two weeks later.
“The proper distribution of bulk cooking oil to the lowest level must be ensured. Do not let any region acquire less than their needs,” Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Pandjaitan said in a video statement on Friday.
