ertamina now requires that customers register their vehicles on its website to buy subsidized gasoline or diesel. That way, the state-owned oil and gas company seeks to ensure the costly measure is not abused.
Applications for registration are accepted on the MyPertamina website throughout the month of July, but Pertamina said it would not yet bar unregistered customers from purchasing subsidized fuel, arguing that it was waiting for the government’s cue and that the public needed to be familiarized with the measure first.
The company explained that the data would be used to determine whether a customer was eligible for purchasing subsidized gasoline or diesel and possibly for further analysis in accordance with regulatory needs.
The policy will affect customers of Pertalite, Pertamina’s subsidized RON-90 fuel, as well as its diesel fuel Solar.
“The registration starts [on July 1], but we will still allow fuel purchases to proceed as usual,” Irto Ginting, corporate secretary of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, told reporters at a briefing on Thursday.
“We will not impose restrictions during the dissemination period, but please do register,” he added.
