Bank BTN collaborates with IBM Consulting to modernize banking system

T Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) has collaborated with IBM Consulting to modernize its banking system through the IBM Cloud Governance methodology to ensure security and compliance in the use of cloud computing in the banking industry.
Bank BTN IT and digital director Andi Nirwoto explained that for financial institutions such as banks, digital transformation was a mandatory initiative that needed to be carried out in order to face challenges such as market changes, maintaining customer data security and complying with government regulations.
"Not only that, banks are required to be able to meet customers' financial service needs in real time, anywhere, anytime without having to visit a branch office," he said on Wednesday.
In order to answer these challenges, Bank BTN, as a bank that focuses on housing finance, continues to transform by adopting the latest technology, including the use of the multi-cloud in the banking system.
"This collaboration with IBM Consulting actually started at the end of 2021. We need partners who can help develop cloud governance so that multi-cloud utilization can run precisely and optimally. Through the existing process, we believe that IBM Consulting possesses intensive experience regarding BTN’s needs," Andi explained.
The IBM Cloud Governance is a framework consisting of the establishment, enforcement and monitoring of the activities and guidelines required as part of the rules of conduct for cloud usage. For example, cloud governance can handle services from one or more cloud service providers (CSPs), including containers, AI, application programming interfaces (APIs), data platforms and the infrastructure that supports processes. The process involves the policy, interaction, storage or management of data and applications.
Each process in cloud governance can include what will be done, which options are available, and who is responsible. The development of this framework also accelerates Bank BTN in ensuring that the speed, agility and flexibility of cloud adoption can be achieved while simultaneously obtaining a sustainable adaptation.
Bank BTN is optimistic that optimizing the use of multi-cloud will help provide convenience and comfort for its services, including opening a savings account, opening a deposit, applying for credit and choosing a house to buy or auction. In addition, customers can also access reports and financial transactions anywhere and anytime through their digital devices.
These conveniences are not only able to increase the trust and loyalty of Bank BTN customers but also boost fee-based income and the number of transactions through Current Account Savings Account (CASA) or the company's low-cost funds.
