ojek, under PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk., officially introduced GoRide Transit, a multimodal service solution that integrates ride-hailing and public transportation services in one transaction. With the innovation, passengers can order a GoRide to the station, buy a public transportation service ticket for the KRL Commuterline and continue their journey from the station to their destination, facilitating users’ daily commutes.
"The launch of GoRide Transit emphasizes Gojek's position as a pioneer of mobility solutions between transportation modes striving to cut costs and time as well as offer convenience through the integration of GoRide services and public transportation in a single transaction," said Catherine Hindra Sutjahyo, President of GoTo's On-Demand Services Business Unit. The service is currently available for 82 Jabodetabek KRL stations.
The new service was launched following the Hub Space x KAI Expo 2023 transportation exhibition and travel fair, which took place on Sept. 29, 2023. The fair was organized by the Transportation Ministry in commemoration of National Transportation Day 2023 at the Jakarta Convention Center.
“We are grateful to be able to launch GoRide Transit, the first service in the world that integrates ride-hailing services with public transportation in one transaction. The existence of GoRide Transit is in line with the GoTo Group's strategy of presenting product variations to reach a wider consumer group, so that Gojek products can be increasingly utilized by all consumer segments, especially among public transportation users,” said Patrick Walujo, President Director of the GoTo Group.
Patrick added that the new service is line with the government’s efforts to increase the use of public transportation services by providing an easier, faster and more economical mobility experience. It is hoped that GoRide Transit can encourage the use of public transportation as a more environmentally friendly and sustainable form of mobility in accordance with the GoTo Group's Three Zeros Commitment: Zero Emissions, Zero Waste and Zero Barriers.
"The government continues to encourage innovation in online transportation services as first-mile and last-mile transportation [from home to station and from station to office] at affordable rates and using environmentally friendly electric vehicles (EVs). It is hoped that this service will further facilitate people's mobility, supporting increased use of mass transportation, and is one solution to overcome the problems of congestion and air pollution in urban areas," Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi stated, as he voiced his support for the new service.
The benefits are already apparent. Research by the Center for Transportation and Logistics Studies at Gadjah Mada Univeristy (PUSTRAL UGM) revealed that those who use GoRide Transit can save up to 27 percent per trip.
This is in addition to the many promotional materials that Gojek offers throughout the year. To further grow the momentum of the launch, the new service can be made even cheaper by entering the promo code GOSTASIUN, specifically created for travel to and from a station.
As the service was also made to be a solution to traffic congestion in and around Jakarta, the same research also found that by taking multimodal trips, the travel time is reduced by 15 percent. This is because people must queue to buy a KRL ticket and then wait for a GoRide at the station, which is no longer necessary.
The new system is integrated with electronic payments and hosts a complete travel guide for users which provides estimated travel time, recommended routes and station locations.
Research done by PUSTRAL UGM also suggested that Gojek's multimodal solution encouraged increased public interest in using public transportation. It was revealed that there was a 38.3-percent increase in Gojek users hailing rides to KRL stations. Combining transportation services in this way contributes to reducing emissions from private motor vehicles by up to 5,057 tonnes throughout 2022.
"As an on-demand service company from Indonesia, Gojek best understands the various societal challenges and is therefore able to create relevant solutions for the problems that face users in the country, including by providing alternative mobility amid increased traffic congestion while also cutting travel costs,” concluded Catherine.
