t least two major Indonesian superapp firms have cut down the services they offer in favor of their core, profitable operations, a strategy analysts say could be key to keeping the companies competitive as more players enter the market.
“Superapps globally are watching each other carefully to adjust their strategies in order to stay competitive,” Momentum Works CEO Jianggan Li told The Jakarta Post on Monday.
Li said it was important to ensure superapps’ products and features were aligned with their infrastructure and targeted use cases.
He cautioned against premature or disconnected service launches, saying they could backfire.
China's WeChat and Indonesia's Gojek are two notable regional superapps, providing a diverse array of services on a unified platform.
Such platforms may encompass functionalities such as messaging, social networking, e-commerce, food delivery, ride-hailing, financial services and more, all on a single platform, Li said.
