The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has provided Rp 37.22 billion (US$2.4 million) of grant as technical assistance for the construction of the new capital city Nusantara.
ndonesia’s new capital city Nusantara has received technical assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) amounting to Rp 37.22 billion (US$2.4 million) from various resources managed by the ADB to help develop the new capital city in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan.
ADB country director for Indonesia Jiro Tominaga said the grant aimed to support the development of Nusantara as a sustainable city.
“This support aims to ensure that the new capital can become a habitable and sustainable city,” said Tominaga at the ADB’s year-end media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday, as quoted by Antara.
Jiro said the grant would be used to focus on three pillars, planning and design, impacts limitation and financing mobilization.
The first pillar ensures that land use and spatial planning support the Nusantara vision to become a smart and sustainable forest city and identifies quick wins for the city to reach a habitable level for its residents.
For the second pillar, the grant will go toward conducting a basic environmental and social survey and the implementation of stringent regulations and protection efforts to minimize the negative impacts of construction.
The third pillar will be in the form of a policy development and investment framework for the new capital city.
