The government has slashed its target for relocating high-ranking civil servants this year by nearly half to 6,000, from an initial figure of 11,916.
he relocation of civil servants from Jakarta to the country’s future capital Nusantara is to proceed at a slower pace than initially planned, as the government has nearly halved its target for 2024.
Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Abdullah Azwar Anas said on Tuesday that this year’s figure had been cut from 11,916 to 6,000 civil servants and their families.
“We have prepared housing for married echelon I officials. Others can share [housing] while waiting for the buildings to be completed,” said Azwar Anas, as quoted by state-owned news agency Antara.
The government plans to relocate civil servants in three stages to the city currently under development in East Kalimantan.
Azwar Anas explained that 179 echelon I officials from 38 ministries including the Trade Ministry and related agencies would be moved in stage one, followed by another 91 echelon I officials from 29 ministries and agencies in stage two and finally, 378 echelon I officials from 59 ministries and agencies in stage three.
That totals 648 high-ranking officials, which includes secretaries-general, inspectors general, directors general and agency chairpersons.
