The administrative authority of Nusantara has issued a final notice for residents to leave their "illegal" homes in four subdistricts in North Penajam Paser regency, which some are designated to be part of Nusantara's Central Government District.
he Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority had asked around 200 residents of Sepaku districts to dismantle their houses to make way for the country’s new capital in North Penajam Paser regency, East Kalimantan, according to a local representative from the Mining Advocacy Network (Jatam).
Those residents are spread in four subdistricts of Sepaku district, namely Bumi Harapan, Pemaluan, Bukit Raya and Sukaraja.
The four subdistricts were designated for Nusantara development plan with some coincides directly with the Nusantara’s Central Government District (KIPP).
Mareta “Eta” Sari, Jatam’s East Kalimantan representative, said in a statement on March 8, the move would eventually lead to the eviction of local residents from their land.
A coalition of civil society comprising 16 rights group in East Kalimantan, including Jatam, in a statement on Wednesday, they opposed the eviction and urged the government to protect the rights of the residents and indigenous community in the area.
“This is a violation to local and indigenous community rights,” the statement said.
