oordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Pandjaitan and Singapore prime minister-elect Lawrence Wong have discussed Singapore’s possible involvement in Indonesian national projects.
Luhut broke the news through a post on his personal Instagram account following a meeting with Wong in Singapore on Tuesday, where he also got together with outgoing Singaporean PM Lee Hsien Loong.
“Singapore and Indonesia have succeeded in significantly increasing their partnership in various fields, be it bilaterally, regionally or multilaterally,” Luhut wrote in the post, noting that the two countries had agreed to continue the “good partnership” that has been weaved “all this time”.
The Indonesian minister went on to elaborate that he had pitched several projects in his talks with Wong and invited Singaporean participation in cross-border carbon capture and storage (CCS), which he said would be a “significant leap” for both countries in building low-carbon industries.
“This is in line with Indonesia’s capability that is perceived to be the swiftest country in developing CCS regulations in Asia Pacific,” said Luhut.
In addition, the senior minister also peddled cooperation opportunities in agriculture and “blue food”, which he explained was to focus on the development of seaweed farming in the archipelago.
Luhut claimed that Wong has expressed interest in partnerships on the projects offered and had declared Singapore’s readiness to undertake initial studies for the projects. On top of that, Luhut said, Wong had demonstrated “interest and seriousness” in building an international hospital in Bali.
