The airline stated the decision was based on “a thorough evaluation” of market demand and operational efficiency.
atar Airways will suspend its Doha-Medan flight route starting June 1, less than five months after the inaugural flight on Jan. 15, the airline told The Jakarta Post on Monday.
The airline stated the decision was based on “a thorough evaluation” of market demand and operational efficiency.
“We understand that this may cause inconvenience for some of our passengers, and we apologize for this. Nevertheless, we continue to strive to provide the best connectivity across our global network,” a Qatar Airways representative said.
Currently, the Middle Eastern airline only serves daily flights from Doha to Jakarta and Bali. The company stated that it did not have concrete plans to add flights to other cities in Indonesia.
“However, we continuously evaluate opportunities to expand our services in the future,” the firm said.
Qatar Airways added Kualanamu International Airport in Medan as its third destination in Indonesia at the beginning of this year. The route had three flights a week, using Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft with 22 business class seats and 232 economy class seats.
State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura 2 previously said that a direct route between Medan and Doha would greatly facilitate global connections and create new opportunities for both passenger and freight transportation between the two cities.
