President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo decided last year to lift a ban on the export of dredged sand that had been in place for more than 20 years, as stipulated in Government Regulation No. 26/2023, which also approves its use for land reclamation and private and state infrastructure development.
Shipments to foreign buyers, however, would need to wait until the government issued a detailed rule under a trade ministerial regulation, currently being deliberated together with the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry and Customs and Excise Directorate General.
