Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan has announced measures against imported textile goods as the government seeks to protect struggling domestic manufacturers.
rade Minister Zulkifli Hasan has announced antidumping duties on imported textile goods as the government seeks to protect struggling domestic manufacturers.
Zulkifli said a new regulation on the matter would renew an import duty regulation that expired in November 2022.
“This afternoon, I will discuss it with the Finance Minister. Hopefully, if the letter is finished by tomorrow, then the next day, or in three days, the [import duty regulation] can be wrapped up,” Zulkifli was quoted as saying by Kumparan on Tuesday.
The minister was attending a meeting at the Presidential Palace to discuss the insolvency of various textile businesses.
“The meeting talked about complaints from the textile industry, several textile industry players closing down and several others on the brink of mass job cuts,” Zulkifli said, as reported by news agency Antara.
Furthermore, the government is also considering whether to address the matter through another revision of import restrictions stipulated in Trade Ministry Regulation (Permendag) No. 8/2024, which is itself a revision of Trade Ministry Regulation No. 36/2023.
