“Hopefully within one or two weeks, the regulation will be issued,” the Indonesian Trade Security Committee (KPPI) said.
he government may introduce regulations that stipulate safeguard duties on textile fabrics and carpet, or other floor coverings, as early as next week, the Indonesian Trade Security Committee (KPPI) said.
KPPI chairwoman Franciska Simanjuntak said on Monday that the agency was still waiting for the Finance Ministry to finalize the regulation for the two commodities.
“Hopefully within one or two weeks, the regulation will be issued,” Franciska said, as quoted from Kompas.com.
The government was planning to impose import duties of between 100 and 200 percent on Chinese goods in response to the impact of the trade war between Beijing and Washington, Antara reported, particularly on clothing, steel, textile products and ceramics.
The Trade Ministry claimed the measures were necessary to protect local industries against the influx of goods due to “overcapacity” and “oversupply” in China as a result of increased tariffs from Western markets.
However, the government later denied that the measures were strictly focused on Chinese goods, stressing that this would also apply to other countries it deemed necessary.
