amildan Tsani Panjaitan, executive at Indonesia’s largest private airline, Lion Air, was appointed to carry the flag as Garuda Indonesia’s new CEO, following an extraordinary shareholders meeting on Friday.
Wamildan will replace Irfan Setiaputra, who has led the state-owned airline since 2020. More than 70 percent of shareholders attended the meeting to approve a new executive board arrangement.
Before his entry to Garuda, Wamildan previously served as Lion Air acting CEO since 2022. He also served as director of safety, security and quality at Batik Air in 2013.
As newly-appointed Garuda Indonesia CEO, Wamildan Tsani said he would focus on three main strategies, namely evaluation, acceleration and expansion.
“I will follow the [President’s] instructions by doing a comprehensive financial and operational review, to accelerate the company's performance and network expansion with improvement in services. All of these efforts will strengthen the reputation of Garuda Indonesia as the national flag carrier,” Wamildan said.

He further highlighted President Prabowo Subianto's instructions, noting the President’s strong focus on Garuda Indonesia, which emphasizes efforts to “make Garuda Indonesia accessible not only to Indonesia, but also once again to the world”.
