ritish companies have committed to investing US$8.5 billion in Indonesia after President Prabowo Subianto met with 19 executives in Lancaster House, London, to discuss business opportunities in the archipelago.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, who also joined the meeting, said British firms had expressed interest in priority sectors in the country, including those related to energy, infrastructure, education and health care.
“This reflects the global community’s trust in Indonesia. They value our good intentions,” Prabowo said.
United Kingdom-based oil giant BP on Thursday also revealed a $7 billion joint project that would unlock around 3 trillion cubic feet of additional gas resources at its Tangguh liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in West Papua’s Bintuni Bay regency.
The UK accounted for the tenth-largest amount of foreign direct investment (FDI) to Indonesia in the first nine months of this year at $611 million.

Investment and Downstream Minister Rosan Roeslani said that political and economic stability, as well as a peaceful government transition had made investors more confident about doing business in the country.
