Indonesia’s flag carrier plans to more than double aircraft procurement in 2025 from what was a relatively small number of planes bought in 2024.
Garuda Indonesia has announced plans to increase aircraft procurement in 2025 to more than double its target for this year.
“As our target in 2025, we will procure more aircraft, around 15 to 20 aircraft,” newly-appointed Garuda Indonesia CEO Wamildan Tsani Panjaitan said during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday.
He went on to say that the state-owned airline sought to add four new aircraft by the end of January 2025, with one already procured and currently undergoing painting and interior improvements.
“And another one is to come by the end of this month,” he added.
Wamildan said the aircraft would be leased in deals involving several stakeholders.
“Regarding the funding, we will communicate with the government, the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry [and] the Transportation Ministry, but we also have cash from operations,” he explained.
Earlier this year, Garuda Indonesia announced a plan to expand its fleet by eight aircraft, including the Boeing 737-800 NG, Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A330-300, for delivery throughout 2024, to operate a fleet of 80 aircraft by the end of the year.
