apanese investors are keen to engage in Indonesia’s massive housing program and could help with the financing, Deputy Public Housing and Settlements Minister Fahri Hamzah has revealed.
The initiative by President Prabowo Subianto to build 3 million houses and apartments per year has previously attracted investment interest from countries like China, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Fahri said his talks with “Japanese friends” suggested they could be interested in helping finance the program.
“So, there’s a chance that Japan could also be quite involved [by investing in the program],” he said on Tuesday, as quoted by Kumparan.
Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba visited Jakarta on Saturday for a meeting with President Prabowo, following which he announced a set of projects in Indonesia worth a total of 129 billion Japanese yen [US$815 million].
The projects include upgrades to fishing ports and the construction of cold chain facilities at selected locations, also with the aim of contributing to Indonesia’s free nutritious meals program.
