ermany, which recently replaced the United States as a coleader in Indonesia’s Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), alongside Japan, is set to dispatch a delegation to Jakarta this month to discuss the program’s implementation.
“We will continue supporting Indonesia with the IPG in achieving its climate goal. With the JETP, we contribute to creating the foundation for a sustainable, secure and affordable energy future—for Indonesia and for a climate-friendly world,” the Germany Embassy told The Jakarta Post on Friday, referring to the International Partners Group (IPG) of donors under the JETP initiative.
According to the embassy, a high-level delegation of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development is scheduled to meet with the IPG and “the whole JETP community”, including political stakeholders, in Jakarta in February to discuss the climate financing deal.
Last month, Germany took over the coleadership of the IPG in Indonesia’s JETP from the US “following a leadership rotation”, Berlin said, underlining that the complex energy transition in Indonesia as well as in countries worldwide required close cooperation at the international level.
“We can only succeed on this path together as an international community,” the statement sent to the Post notes.
“Germany has always been a strong supporter of this partnership between Indonesia and its international partners since its launch at the G20 summit – and we are continuing this path. This is underlined by Germany’s decision to step up its involvement in advancing the partnership’s implementation as colead.”
The US backed out from its role as IPG coleader alongside Japan following US President Donald Trump’s decision to exit the Paris Climate Accords.
