PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) exports cars to nearly 100 countries.
apanese auto giant Toyota is eyeing Indonesia as its key manufacturing hub for emerging markets, according to tycoon Hashim Djojohadikusumo.
Its local subsidiary PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) exports cars to nearly 100 countries, according to its website.
Hashim, President Prabowo Subianto’s younger brother and who serves on the advisory board to the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), said the local subsidiary was looking to increase its exports to Mexico.
“I recently met with Toyota, and they said they want to turn Indonesia into a manufacturing center for the Global South,” Hashim said during a panel at the Indonesia Economic Summit held by the Indonesia Business Council at Shangri-La, Jakarta.

To support this, Toyota has asked Hashim to help push for a trade agreement between Indonesia and Mexico.
Without it, domestic vehicle exports would face hurdles from import quotas imposed on countries without free trade agreements with Mexico, he added.
