The government will reduce domestic economy class airfares by 13 to 14 percent for the Idul Fitri homecoming period this year.

The policy will lower the price of flights booked between March 1 and April 7. The flights themselves must be taken between March 24 and April 7.

Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said that other than reducing air travel costs, the government would also ensure adequate flight capacity during the holiday period.

“We want to make sure the people can enjoy more affordable and comfortable travel, especially during important events like Idul Fitri,” he said during a press conference at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, on Saturday, as quoted from a statement issued by the ministry.

The discount was made possible by policies introduced by multiple entities.

The Finance Ministry, for instance, has said passengers will only pay 5 percent of value added tax (VAT) instead of the normal rate of 11 percent during the period, as stipulated in Finance Ministerial Regulation (PMK) No. 18/2025.

Coordinating Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono said in the same statement that the Transportation Ministry and the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Ministry had succeeded in reducing the aviation turbine fuel (avtur) price and airport service costs at 37 airports.
