igh-ranking Indonesian officials are heading to Washington for meetings with their United States counterparts from April 16 to 23 in a bid to commence negotiations over US President Donald Trump’s tariffs, the outcome of which will determine the fate of the country’s economy.

Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartanto said the delegation would meet with US Trade Representatives, the secretary of commerce, the secretary of state and the secretary of the treasury during their seven-day trip.

In a press conference on Monday, Airlangga refused to disclose what Jakarta would seek from the Trump administration, saying: “It’s a negotiation; it’s a secret”.

He also added that the delegation has prepared some terms that they poured into “a relatively thorough non-paper”, which is an informal, unbinding document issued to facilitate negotiations.

Airlangga himself is helming the delegation that also includes Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Foreign Minister Sugiono and his deputy, National Economic Council deputy head Mari Elka Pangestu, and First Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Djiwandono.

The delegation’s visit to the US also coincides with the 2025 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund scheduled for April 21 to 26.
