t a handover ceremony at the Finance Ministry on Tuesday, outgoing minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said the job was never an easy one, noting the challenges of implementing structural reforms while responding to digital disruption and geopolitical tensions.

“We [myself and all the officials] have managed the state budget and safeguarded the ministry […]. It has never been easy.”

Sri Mulyani, who in the past held senior roles at the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, described her years in office as both an honor and a privilege.

She urged her successor, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, and the ministry’s officials to continue securing the state budget as a cornerstone of stability and a key instrument for achieving social justice.

“It was a privilege to serve this country and help President Prabowo Subianto realize the nation’s dream. I am grateful for that,” she said, before apologizing for any shortcomings.

“No ivory is without cracks, no human is perfect. There must have been mistakes while I carried out the mandate. I sincerely apologize.”
