T

he government has revealed that its fresh graduate internship program, part of the latest economic stimulus package aimed at spurring job creation, will be open to eligible participants from all economic backgrounds, with the mechanism still being finalized.

Manpower Minister Yassierli emphasized that the program, set to be rolled out in the fourth quarter of this year, should not be viewed as social aid but as a means of providing temporary job opportunities.

The government will also launch a platform similar to the Manpower Ministry’s SIAPkerja job portal app to connect internship applicants with employers. However, this platform is different from former president Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s flagship preemployment card scheme, the Prakerja program, Yassierli noted.

“For the registration, we are preparing a platform [...] it must be ready by this week,” the minister announced at a press conference on Monday, as quoted by Kompas.com.

He added that the Higher Education, Science and Technology Ministry would be involved in the “data matching” process and in distributing the 20,000 prospective interns.

Yassierli also said that funding for the internship program was already secured, with the Finance Ministry set to release previously blocked budget allocations.
